Babies and Body Work

Even the most gently born baby has to navigate the birth canal with the sutures of the head being molded so as to make the head a tiny bit smaller…wow! Just think of the pressure the baby’s head must be under? And, then, the great relief of being born!

As a baby learns about its world - to nurse , sleep, grow - a gentle craniosacral treatment can help the baby to adjust to this new world. Using touch so tender - it barely feels like a nickel laid upon the back of your hand - body work can relax tightness in the shoulders, neck and head, thus promoting better breastfeeding and latch. By correcting fascial bunching and birth stress or injury, craniosacral body work can prevent years of suffering during teething and learning to use the limbs and balance.

I started doing body work BECAUSE of babies…I was a midwife for nearly 30 years, and early on I met a wonderful osteopath named Dr. Grace who would come to a birth and do a treatment on a baby if I thought the baby needed it…then, one day, she looked at me and said, “Krystn, you have great hands, I am going to teach you how to do what I do and then I no longer have to come out in the dark of night to treat these little ones!”…and that is exactly what happened.

I apprenticed with her for over 3 years and learned SO much about the body and body work. I then went to two different massage schools, and took a great deal of advanced training in both craniosacral therapy and myofascial release. I have now touched literally hundreds of babies, at birth or soon after, and I have seen wonderful results with both making babies more comfortable and helping babies to nurse.

I even got to work on my very own newborn granddaughter recently. She was injured at birth, and could not use her left arm much at all. After three treatments, a week apart each, she was nearly normal in usage. And, she seemed overall much more comfortable in her body, slept better, and most importantly, nursed a great deal better then at first. Even her mother, my daughter, and one of the very first people I worked on EVER, was amazed by the difference in her newborn, and she would tell you to absolutely try it!

I recently worked on five day old baby, and she had an exquisite response to CST. I will work on babies at any age!

I do house calls in the early weeks of life.

The Sphenoid Bone

Do you know where your sphenoid bone is?

In this photo, my hands are waiting and listening to Cindy's cranio-sacral rhythm while I am working with her sphenoid bone, one of the most important bones in the body.

The sphenoid bone "is an unpaired bone of the neurocranium. It is situated in the middle of the skull towards the front, in front of the temporal bone and the basilar part of the occipital bone. The sphenoid bone is one of the seven bones that articulate to form the orbit. Its shape somewhat resembles that of a butterfly or bat with its wings extended. " - Wikipedia

I love the sphenoid bone! I love connecting to it, with the help of my client, whose breath and tongue really do all the work. Most people feel a renewed sense of well-being once they have undergone this process.

Everyone, from the newly born to the elderly and dying need and deserves to have their sphenoid bone listened to and looked after and loved!

Biodynamic Bodywork

Biodynamic Bodywork - restores and enhances the wholeness and vitality of the entire body using myofascial release, neuromuscular dynamics and cranio-sacral therapy

The fascia:  when a baby forms within the mother’s womb, the fascia forms first, and then the organs, bones and tissues form inside the ball of fascia. When a person dies, the last part of the body to hold the spark of life is the fascia. This connective alpha and omega collects our issues in our tissues, or stones in the river of your body and your life. Myofascial release irons out the wrinkles, bumps and bruises of life, through touch both strong and tender.

Cranio-sacral therapy works with the deep and fundamental ordering system of the body - the cerebrospinal system, the head, neck, spine, and sacrum.

By using my hands to deeply listen to the signals of your body, I use the biodynamic therapies I have developed over 30 years of treating people of all ages to help you release physiological and somatic stress and pain, and help you to achieve well-being.
