Babies and Body Work

Even the most gently born baby has to navigate the birth canal with the sutures of the head being molded so as to make the head a tiny bit smaller…wow! Just think of the pressure the baby’s head must be under? And, then, the great relief of being born!

As a baby learns about its world - to nurse , sleep, grow - a gentle craniosacral treatment can help the baby to adjust to this new world. Using touch so tender - it barely feels like a nickel laid upon the back of your hand - body work can relax tightness in the shoulders, neck and head, thus promoting better breastfeeding and latch. By correcting fascial bunching and birth stress or injury, craniosacral body work can prevent years of suffering during teething and learning to use the limbs and balance.

I started doing body work BECAUSE of babies…I was a midwife for nearly 30 years, and early on I met a wonderful osteopath named Dr. Grace who would come to a birth and do a treatment on a baby if I thought the baby needed it…then, one day, she looked at me and said, “Krystn, you have great hands, I am going to teach you how to do what I do and then I no longer have to come out in the dark of night to treat these little ones!”…and that is exactly what happened.

I apprenticed with her for over 3 years and learned SO much about the body and body work. I then went to two different massage schools, and took a great deal of advanced training in both craniosacral therapy and myofascial release. I have now touched literally hundreds of babies, at birth or soon after, and I have seen wonderful results with both making babies more comfortable and helping babies to nurse.

I even got to work on my very own newborn granddaughter recently. She was injured at birth, and could not use her left arm much at all. After three treatments, a week apart each, she was nearly normal in usage. And, she seemed overall much more comfortable in her body, slept better, and most importantly, nursed a great deal better then at first. Even her mother, my daughter, and one of the very first people I worked on EVER, was amazed by the difference in her newborn, and she would tell you to absolutely try it!

I recently worked on five day old baby, and she had an exquisite response to CST. I will work on babies at any age!

I do house calls in the early weeks of life.
